FRIENDS AND ROMANS, LET ME TELL YOU A STORY. Tumblr user dudski has a raccoon phobia, so of course I and all her close friends use this to torment her at all possible times. It’s great, it’s wonderful. This summer I went to RenFest with my mom (as you do) and while getting sloshed on fake-tails-and-corsets beer and white wine (as you do), I saw a stall selling charcoal sketches of animal art and they had some GREAT ONES of raccoons staring vacantly forward with unseeing, dead, glassy eyes. “I HAVE TO SEND THESE TO TUMBLR-AND-TWITTER USER DUDSKI,” I said to myself. “BUT I CAN’T FUCK WITH TWITPIC OR WHATEVER THE FUCK ON MY PHONE, I’LL JUST INSTAGRAM @ HER, IT’LL BE GREAT, IT’LL BE WONDERFUL.” So I Instagrammed @dudski and hashtagged #artfordudski and it reminded me of photos I’d taken at the Minnesota State Fair earlier that summer of some lovely and tasteful table art of taxedermied raccoons rowing canoes and eating CrackerJacks out of the box, which I had forgotten to send her way, so I Instagrammed @dudski and it was great, it was wonderful. Then I got a comment back that was a heart and a winky/kissy face, which was weird, it’s no fun when she doesn’t declare her martyrdom in the face of my raccoon onslaughts. TURNS OUT I SPENT THE ENTIRE DAY SENDING RACCOON PIX TO A STRANGE OLD MAN ON INSTAGRAM WHO THOUGHT, “YES, THIS GIRL I’VE NEVER MET IS SENDING ME RACCOON ARTWORKS, THIS IS NORMAL, SO I’LL RESPOND WITH SOME LOW-LEVEL FLIRTATIONS AND SEE WHERE THE EVENING TAKES US, IT’LL BE GREAT, IT’LL BE WONDERFUL.”
It wasn’t. It was neither of those things.
